Taking Oscar to Prom

We don't mean your date needs to be named Oscar, although if he is that's OK too. We are talking about taking Celebrity Oscar style as inspiration for your prom dress, and we want you to be on the best dressed list!

We are excited to see what the stars will be wearing this Sunday, but for now, we wanted to look at some of the most memorable Best Dressed celebrities from the Daily News, and tell you how to steal their style for prom!

First Up: Halle Berry, in of course, her iconic 2002 dress from Elie Saab. Talk about strategic bead work, and very sexy sheer! We love how the fuller skirt balances the sexy top of this dress, and the deep burgundy is perfect on her skin. Looking for a dress like Halle for prom? We suggest Jovani Prom Dress 74234 which updates the look with bold, bright red!

Next: We have Sandra Bullock in a gorgeous gold beaded dress from Marchesa in 2010. I mean, WOW, this is a gorgeous gown with all over sparkle! I love how Sandra kept the look simple with a gold clutch and basic low pony tail which really let this gown shine! If you are looking a similar look we like La Femme 18513, which gives a similar all over dipped in gold look, but has been updated with a strapless neckline accented with chunky stones and a slit.

And Last: Penelope Cruz chanels Prima Ballerina in this stunning pink dress in 2007. Soft pink and a full rose like skirt is a gorgeous look for the Oscars, and for prom. We love her sharp ballerina bun and simple jewelry. If you want girly ballerina elegance for prom, we suggest Sherri Hill 21014, which offers a beautiful shade of pink, gorgeous beading on the bodice for prom sparkle, and a perfect mermaid skirt accented with rosettes!

Ball Gowns, Soft or Edgy?

Once upon a time the ball gown was reserved for fairy tale princesses and freshmen pageants. While, if you are looking for a pageant dress as a Freshman, we strongly recommend a more traditional ball gown, and if you want a classic Cinderella prom experience there are still plenty of gorgeous styles to choose from, the ball gown has truly come into its own for prom 2013. Like the short prom dress, the ball gown had it's moment in the past it had fallen out of favor until a few years ago. Designers have once again embrace the romantic ball gown, the flirty ball gown, and even the sexy ball gown!

Prom 2013 has seen prom designers really push the envelope of style when it comes to the ball gown. The runways featured ball gowns with tulle, chiffon, sequins, stones, crystals, feathers, and pearls. We saw cap sleeves, short sleeves, long sleeves, strapless, halter, and one shoulder prom dresses. There were ball gowns with sheer inserts, embroidery, neons, pastels, even cut outs! On BALL GOWNS!

Are you thinking about a ball gown? What look are you going for?

When the Base Drops

The "Harlem Shake" may have originated in Harlem, New York in the 1980's, but it wasn't until earlier this month that it became an Internet sensation! Everyone from bloggers, celebrities, regular Joe's, news shows, and sports teams have recorded their Shake and broadcast it to the world on YouTube.

Cinderella's Closet of course had to get in on the action! Our staff got together, choreographed, and recorded our very own Harlem Shake. I must say, we have a very talented and coordinated staff!

I love their playful take on this new trend. I especially love all the bright colored prom dresses!

We think this would be an awesome twist to the usual prom pictures this year! Get your prom group to record their very own Shake, and make sure to share it with us!

Here's our version:

Glinda the Good Witch

Yesterday was the Los Angeles Premiere of Oz the Great and Powerful, and while Mila Kunis plays Theordora (the Wicked Witch of the West) in the movie she certainly didn't look very wicked at the premiere in Dolce & Gabanna.

We love the lady like style of this dress with lace accents and full skirt. Mila's casual side parted updo is perfect while her dark nails are an interesting "rocker girl" edge to toughen up an otherwise super sweet look. A dress like this is perfect for a fancy Valentine's date night, or with some jewels would be a great Prom look.

Here's how you can get the look from Cinderella's Closet: We mimiced the lace accented top, high neck, and small sleeve, but made it younger with a shorter full tulle skirt. Plus the sparkling belted detail makes this dress perfect for prom. We also love how Sherri Hill photographed this with a chunky cuff bracelet!

Princess Style

OK, Kate Middleton isn’t technically a Princess, but the Duchess certainly has princess worthy style. Yesterday a Kate favorite designer, Jenny Packham, showed her new collection during New York Fashion Week. Packham was reportedly under consideration for Kate’s wedding dress, and the Duchess has worn her gowns several times. Looking at these dresses you have to agree they are Princess worthy, and I could certainly see Kate wearing them!
